Mme. Blavatsky and Col. Olcott were the first Westerners to introduce Tibetan mysticism to Europe and America. Blavatsky’s mystical connection was primarily with the Dalai and Panchen Lamas, through her visions of ancient masters associated with Tashi Lhunpo Monastery that had been built by the First Dalai Lama in 1447 and that two centuries later became the seat of the Panchen Lama incarnations. Blavatsky also secretly visited Tibet on two occasions, and we will meditate in her favorite places there.

Our spiritual journey will begin in Chengdu of Szechwan Province in China, from where we will fly into to Tibet and Lhasa. Chengdu is a medium sized city on the borders of Eastern Tibet, and serves as China’s administrative center for the Tibetan regions. It has the benefit of being easily accessed by numerous international airports. We recommend coming in through Hong Kong.

Our first few days in Lhasa will be somewhat relaxed so that we can acclimatize to the altitude, making day trips to meditate in various power places in the Lhasa area that were blessed by the various Dalai and Panchen Lama incarnations. We then continue by bus over the high mountain passes encasing the sacred Turquoise Lake en route to Gyantse and Shigatse. After meditating in Tashi Lhunpo, we will drive to Sakya Monastery and finally to Base Camp on the Tibetan side of Mt. Everest, sleeping overnight in a small hotel beside Rongbuk, the highest monastery in the world.

PLEASE NOTE: March has seen some challenges for the Tibetans and their fragile culture. This will probably continue to some degree until the Olympics. We offer our prayers that the wishes and visions of the buddhas and bodhisattvas will be fulfilled, and that the Tibetan mystical culture will again emerge with full splendor over the decades to follow.

Some of you who are hoping to join our pilgrimage might be somewhat nervous. Please note that Blavatsky visited Tibet over a century ago, during the heighth of the British-Russian conflict, at great personal risk to her very life. Traveling in disguise, either side would have shot her had they discovered her identity. She did this in search of knowledge and spiritual fulfillment, and achieved great benefits for herself and others.

Nobody travelling on our pilgrimage will place themselves in even a thousandth part of the dangers she faced, nor experience a thousandth part of the discomfort. To the contrary, we travel in chartered vehicles, and meditate in the sacred sites while clothed in our normal American gear.

It is important that spiritual people stand for their beliefs, as did Blavatsky, and not hide under a rock when someone sneezes in the distance. It is also important that we show both the Chinese and the Tibetans that we follow the path of peace and harmony, in support of truth and justice, and are not intimidated by normal appearances.
